Ah, sorry. [to Chekov] She doesn't remember being here. Neither does Mako. They're both back.

[Oh, we're bowing now? Good, yes. Chekov mirrors Asami's bow, unfazed by her lack of recognition.]

The pleasure is mine, and I look forward to talking with you again. [Hopefully about cars and engines, but Asami may need some time to settle in and get used to the City's technology.

Korra and Naga both get the usual hugs.] Mako also? Is your house full yet?

[ asami's head tilts curiously as she hears more of chekov's accent. it's a strange thing to her ears, but not at all unpleasant. ]

So do I. Korra's told me a lot about you.

[Maybe it's not unpleasant NOW. The accent can be darn near incomprehensible when it comes to seengoolarities or ewacuating Wulcan.]

Mostly good, I hope? Anything unflattering was likely an exaggeration.

Like I'd have anything bad to say!

[ asami laughs a little. ] No no, nothing like that, I promise.

I hope we aren't interrupting you, though..?

Good, thank you. [Chekov hides his appreciation of Korra's response with a I-know-I'm-perfect, thank-you-for-agreeing smile.

To Asami:] Of course not, no. The laboratory has not been working on anything of consequence and I was thinking of leaving. All of you are much better company than schematics and calculations, also.

[anatural]

[wait not working on anything of consequence?]

Does that mean you're not hiring? Because Asami was hoping she could get a job with you guys.

[vavavroom]

Korra told me that you do a lot of important work here. [ asami's hasty to add. ] Trying to figure out the City, help improve the life here... finding an escape. I'd like to help, if I can.

[candothat]

They are usually hiring, I think. Other departments may be busy. Mine was... ah, set back significantly when the laboratory was vandalized and the last sixteen months' of research on faster-than-light technology destroyed.

[It was devastating, and it didn't help that Uhura left soon after and Delacroix quit working at City Solutions. Fortunately, there hasn't been time to mope about any of it with the rebellion.]

Asami, what is your specialty? Engineering?

[anatural]

Wait your lab was vandalized? What happened?

[ asami glances at korra, also a little concerned about the vandalizing as well... but she figures she might as well answer his questions, first. ]

I've never had any proper schooling, but I've been surrounded by my father's work on machinery and his company all my life. I'm a fast learner, too, so I promise I won't be a hindrance.

Someone broke in and compromised Delacroix's data. I have no idea how, given the security at City Solutions, but--

[He shrugs, waves off any further concern, and turns to Asami.]

I am not concerned about your abilities. If you would like to work in engineering with me, I would be more than happy with that arrangement; if you would rather work elsewhere, the least I can do is put in a good word for you.

[anatural]

[That sucks. Korra reaches out and squeezes Chekov's arm sympathetically.]

[vavavroom]

If you wouldn't mind an apprentice like me, I'd love to join you.

[candothat]

[He pats Korra's hand reassuringly. The loss of data is frustrating, but he isn't in a hurry to leave the City. If it takes another sixteen months to recreate what was lost, then so be it.

The thought of having an apprentice is ridiculous. Chekov smiles in response to Asami.] I am only an apprentice myself where technology is concerned. We can learn together.

[anatural]

[Korra snorts]

YEAH RIGHT. You're some kind of technological genius.

[Or maybe everybody just looks like a genius compared to her..........]

Yes, I am. [Look, he isn't going to deny the truth, even if everyone does look like a technological genius next to Korra.] But not in this century.

[OH. To Asami:] You're familiar with automobiles?

[vavavroom]

Been surrounded by them my whole life. I'd put that Satomobile we rode in back together again if I could get all the right parts.

We can do that!

[Forget getting out of the City. This sounds more fun.]

With what is left, and with your knowledge of any broken components, we should be able to fix it in three weeks, or maybe four.

[anatural]

[They're going to start talk about things Korra doesn't understand, aren't they?]

Should I leave you two alone?

[ negl, asami had been all rearing to further that conversation, but korra's comment does well to reign her in. FANGIRL LATER, SATO. ]

I'd love the help. I'm sure with your knowledge, we could make it even better. [ she casts korra a sheepish look. ] Whenever you've got some free time, that is.

We can discuss this later, when we aren't in danger of boring Korra. [He loves you Korra, seriously.] Do you have dinner plans?

[anatural]

Seriously, you guys can go on without me. [Korra's body is beginning to complain mightily, not quite ready for the today's level of activity, and she kinda just wants to go home. But she doesn't want to ruin Asami and Chekov's good time.]
