Tomorrow, 10am sharp.

I expect you to be on time, Ensign.

[ truthfully, bones is fond of chekov. he is fond of children and young adults in general, but it's because of this fondness that he dislikes the thought of chekov as technically a soldier and doing work in such a godforsaken place as space, being so young as he is. he doesn't approve of space, much less young kids on there.

so, really, it's not chekov at all.

he's impressed at chekov's early arrival, although he probably should have expected as much.
]

Sit down, Mr. Chekov. [ he motions for the chair closest to his desk, after they've done their greetings outside of the doctor's office. ] This is going to be a bit different from the usual medical procedure at Starfleet, but just sit still and follow my orders, alright?

[ so he does all the basic stuff - checking his eyes with the light, pulling out his tongue to check his tonsils, checking his pulse, and all those things. these are things he knows how to do despite not having the technology for it. ]

[ there have been lessons on the what-to-dos when stuck in a backwards civilization with nothing else but your hands - there are so many primitive planets still unknown to earth that it's more than handy to know. most especially when you're always hanging out with jim kirk. every day is an adventure, and sometimes not necessarily a good one.

the technology still irks him, and sometimes he fumbles with his hands, but he's getting better at things.
]

You can keep saying that as much as you want, but I still won't understand what it means. I'm a doctor, not a scientist. [ he gets to checking chekov's hands, and pauses for second. ] Grit your teeth, this is going to hurt.

[ he's going to set it right in 3... 2... ]

[ ...and CRACK.

sorry about that.
]

Whoever did that for you before didn't know what they were doing. [ that is, if anyone did try to correct them, anyway. chekov's fingers would've stayed permanently crooked, or else they could have been broken if he continued to use them without having them checked out. among other things, anyway, bones can list them all. ] You didn't think to go to a doctor for that?

Only a medical expert can tell you what is and what isn't necessary, Chekov.

[ dropping the mr, making it as informal as he possibly can without forgetting the fact that there's still a professional distance between them.

he takes in the sight of the scars, turning over chekov's hands over his.
]

Products of the City or its inhabitants? [ keeping his cool, man. shit's not easy. ]

[ mccoy recognizes a deflection when he sees one. he gets it from jim a lot, a fact that frustrates him to no end, although he does get his answers at the end of the with a lot of poking and prodding. having it come from someone else makes him even angrier - and either chekov's learned it from watching jim or from being stuck in this city for far too long. ]

I'm obligated to ask you in detail, you know.

[ he doesn't. ]

Lift your shirt up and turn around. Auscultation is difficult with a stethoscope and your clothing's a barrier.

Listening to your internal organs — [ he'd explain more, but he's distracted by the cut. ] Another altercation, Ensign?
