He considers telling the girl -- El -- that she can contact him if she needs anything and doesn't want to disturb an usually standoffish Chapel, but El seems disinclined to talk and the doctor is fixing him with a look that he can't quite identify. He should probably leave before he does anything else regrettable.

Chekov waves to both Chapel and El and retreats to his quarters, wondering the whole way if he has made a very dire mistake.
