There's a dance floor located on a dark beach that's lit by firepits and tiki torches. The costumed party-goers hint at some kind of Halloween celebration.

The focus is Chekov and Kitty Pryde. They're both in costumes--Pavel has round glasses and slicked-down hair, Kitty is wearing a convincingly realistic set of dragonfly wings--and dancing together. This wouldn't be particularly shocking if they weren't kissing while they danced, which they are.

Kitty pulls back with a smile. "I think we're forgetting something."

"Ah, yes. You distracted me." Chekov doesn't mind being distracted in the least. He is, in fact, in love. He can't say as much since they're hard words for Kitty to hear, but it's felt as a kind of undeniable, unalterable truth.

"Me? You're the one stealing the lead."

"True, but you were the one instigating the kissing."

"Are you sure? I think you were instigating it by being too cute not to kiss."

"I blame it on the glasses. I was told that I would be irresistible in them."

Kitty plants a quick kiss on Chekov's lips. "Take me for another spin, your mathship."

"I would be happy to." Chekov grins and spins Kitty in a very literal way, playful and so, so pleased with life in spite of being trapped in a prison a universe away from home and family and duty.

She spins herself right into his arms and leans against his chest, wings fluttering in a decidedly not costume-y way. "I'm happy too."

That's not what he said, but he's so glad to hear it. More than anything else, even more than escaping MarinaNova, he wants her to be happy. He wants to be there to share it too. She makes him feel like he has value beyond his navigation skills or scientific and engineering knowledge; that's only one item on a long list of reasons why he fell in love with her. "So am I."

"Yeah? Then I guess we're in a pretty good place."

"That is the first time that I have heard that said in MarinaNova."

"It does feel a little like a bad joke, but I'm pretty sure I meant it."

"There is nowhere I'd rather be," Chekov replies with the utmost sincerity.

Kitty's blush is almost invisible in the low light. She looks into his eyes like she's trying to find the lie. "Big statement."

"But a true statement," he insists. He believes himself and he's willing her to believe him, too. "Being trapped here is a fair price to pay for the opportunity to meet you."

She seems at a loss for an answer for the briefest moment before she's kissing him again.
